Pixi Fluoro Flamingo

Pixi Polish Fluoro Flamingo

Press Sample

Warning: You’re going to need your sunglasses for this post!

This is another new Pixi polish for Summer 2013. I was really impressed with Summer Sunset (I have it on my toes right now!) so I was looking forward to Fluoro Flamingo. In the bottle I thought perhaps it was a neon which worried me a bit. When I was applying it I kept waiting for it to dry to that strange semi matte finish but I am happy to report that never happened!

Fluoro Flamingo is a very, VERY bright cool pink creme. I really was shocked this wasn’t a neon. It’s so bright it sort of freaked out my camera!

Application was fine. I used three coats in my swatches though if my nails were their normal length I probably would have gotten away with two. I haven’t had time recently to file my nails and they have gotten (too) long.

Regarding the name…I googled “fluoro” and it’s a prefix that is used to indicate something is fluorescent. Quite appropriate for this nail polish.

There are additional swatches below the jump. Also, if you have yet to try Pixi (or you just want to expand your collection…) it is a beauty event on Hautelook today. The polishes are $3 which is quite the deal considering they are $8 at Target or on the Pixi website. If you’re having a hard time deciding check out the other Pixi polishes we have reviewed here.

Pixi Summer Sunset

Pixi Summer SunsetPress Sample

At first glance Summer Sunset doesn’t look like anything special. But I really liked the name. Plus I was planning on wearing a blue and teal dress and thought this would look good with that color palette. As it turned out, I was pleasantly surprised once I got Summer Sunset on my nails!

Summer Sunset is an orange leaning coral with gorgeous golden shimmer. In the bottle I didn’t notice the shimmer but it really comes out on the nail.

The formula is a tad bit thin but not difficult to work with. I used three coats in my swatches. It’s also worth noting I thought perhaps Summer Sunset might be a neon but I’m happy to report that it is not.

This polish really does remind me of a summer sunset! This one, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, in particular. This is going to be a great shade for the spring and summer. My last few pedicures have been with bondi New York Strawberry Fields but I think next time I will give Summer Sunset a try.

I wore Summer Sunset as an accent nail with Essie First Timer and really loved the two colors together. There are swatches of that manicure below the jump along with additional swatches of Summer Sunset. Make sure to check out the macro shots! The shimmer really is gorgeous.

This is just one of the three new polishes Pixi released for Summer 2013.  Now I’m really looking forward to trying the others!

SinfulColors Let’s Talk (+ a comparison to Pixi Amazing Amethyst)

This was the first SinfulColors nail polish I ever purchased. No, really! Although, that shouldn’t be that shocking…it’s purple and shimmery. Back then purple shimmery polishes had a monopoly in my collection. The reason I pulled this back out now is that Pixi Amazing Amethyst reminded me quite of bit of Let’s Talk and in the comments Zoey asked if there were any affordable dupes. Below the jump there is a comparison of the two.

Anyway, Let’s Talk is gorgeous! It is an electric purple with blue undertones packed with shimmer. This is definitely bordering on frosty but I would not call it frosty.

This is one of those purples that absolutely freaks my camera out. It pulls significantly more blue in my swatches than it is in real life. Apparently I’m not the only person who has had that problem with this polish. I couldn’t find an accurate swatch anywhere on the internet! So definitely check it out next time you’re at the drugstore. The bottle color is very accurate.

The formula of this polish is a bit thin. I did need three coats to get an opaque color. Otherwise, I have no application complaints.

Like I said, below the jump there is a comparison of Let’s Talk and Pixi Amazing Amethyst. They are not dead on dupes but they are close and Let’s Talk has the same electric quality that makes Amazing Amethyst so special. Let’s Talk is definitely a good less expensive alternative.

Also below the jump there are more swatches of Let’s Talk!

Nail Art: Scalloped Tips

I was browsing at Sally Beauty Supply recently when I saw a poster by Nina Ultra Pro that said Trend Alert and had instructions on how to achieve the scalloped tip look. It sounded simple enough so I wanted to give it a try. The poster recommends colors but I wanted to do a Fall appropriate version so I used the 3 new polishes Pixi released for Fall.

For my version of instructions on how to get the scalloped tips look check below the jump. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this super easy nail art!

Pixi Amazing Amethyst

I’m going to be completely honest. When I first saw Pixi’s three new polishes for fall I wasn’t overly excited about Amazing Amethyst. In the bottle it looked pretty but didn’t look like anything particularly special. Due to that I dragged my feet on giving it a try. Wow, am I regretting that now!

Amazing Amethyst is a gorgeous blue based purple that is packed with miroglitter. This is one of those purples that has that electric quality to it. This polish literally glows on the nails. If you’re a purple polish nut like me you will LOVE this polish!

Application was lovely. I’ve grown to quite like the Pixi brushes. They’re skinny and round but apply polish very well. For pictures of the brush check out my post on Vivid Coral. I used just two coats of Amazing Amethyst in my swatches. This polish did dry to a kind of satin finish so a top coat is definitely required!

I still think the must have polish from Pixi’s newest release is Evening Emerald but Amazing Amethyst is also lovely. Pixi polishes can be found at Target or on the Pixi Beauty website.

Make sure to check out the macro shot below the jump. The shimmer is gorgeous!

Pixi Evening Emerald

I officially have a new favorite Pixi polish! Until now, my favorite Pixi polish by far was Luminous Lilac. And don’t get me wrong….I still love that polish but my love for Evening Emerald is on an entirely different level!

Evening Emerald is a gorgeous blueish green (or emerald…) glitter in a very dark blue (almost black) base. When I saw this polish in the bottle I thought it was blue. But on the nail the polish does look green.

The application of this polish was lovely. I used only two coats which is almost unheard of for such a dark color! Without a top coat this polish does dry a bit dull so a shiny top coat is definitely required.

I really am completely in love with this polish. I don’t have anything in my collection like it plus jewel tones are going to be a big trend (again) for Fall.

Evening Emerald is one of three new polishes Pixi released for Fall. Pixi polishes can be found at Target or on the Pixi Beauty website.

Nail Art: Vivid Polka Dots

I know, I know. You are all thinking…polka dots AGAIN!? Really, Alli? But I just can’t help myself! I love polka dots. And I love neon. So it only seems natural to merge the two.

The first time I used Pixi Vivid Coral I didn’t love it. But, this manicure made me kind of love it. I applied 2 layers of Ulta Snow White before applying one layer of Pixi Vivid Coral. The white base made Vivid Coral really gorgeous! I didn’t want to do an entirely neon manicure so I left the pointer finger white and added polka dots using one my DIY dotting tools.

This manicure is similar to my Alternating Polka Dots manicure and I love it just as much. There’s just nothing better than mixing neon nail polish and polka dots!

There are a few more swatches below the jump. And let me know what you think about this manicure in a comment below!

pixi – coral cabana

I have to admit, I’ve had my eye on several pixi products at Target for a while now, something about the logo and the packaging is very appealing to me. However, I’ve never tried any of their products until now!

Coral Cabana is a very bright coral pink creme. It’s a good bit brighter than my camera was willing to acknowledge. It’s almost bright enough for me to want to call it a neon, but it doesn’t behave like a neon – it dried to a shiny finish, rather than the matte or semi-matte finish that neons typically do.

Application was nice, I used 3 coats. They went on smoothly, but I did notice that the polish started to thicken up a bit. I added a few drops of thinner and it solved the problem. I topped it off with a a coat of Seche Vite.

Overall,  I really like this polish – despite my extensive pink polish collection, this is a unique color to me. It’s a really great pop color for spring and summer.

For those that shy away from neons but want to test out a bright fun color, I’d recommend this polish. I think pixi is off to a good start and I look forward to seeing where pixi goes with their nail polish line, I’ll definitely be trying some more. If you’d like to see more from pixi, Alli has also reviewed Luminous Lilac and Vivid Coral. I have a few more pictures under the jump!

Happy Sunday!

Pixi Luminous Lilac

Pixi Luminous LilacIt was pretty obvious I wasn’t overly impressed with the first Pixi polish I tried; Vivid Coral. So I wasn’t expected too much from Luminous Lilac, honestly. But! I was pleasantly surprised….I ended up loving this polish!

Luminous Lilac pink  leaning lilac with gorgeous subtle shimmer. Just looking at it in the bottle I thought it was a plain old lilac creme. I was wrong! The shimmer is really what makes this polish unique. This polish is very subtle and chic but not boring. Which is often hard to find.

I was also impressed with the formula. Whenever a shade is pale I’m worried to formula will be thin, runny and/or sheer. This is none of those things. The formula applies beautifully and is very pigmented. I only used 2 coats in my swatch.

Obviously, I’m a fan of this polish. It’s such a nice break from all the bright colors I’ve been wearing this Spring. During the Spring and Summer I do wear alot of bright clothes so having a subtle polish like this that still has some color is essential for me. Another of my favorite of these types of polishes is SinfulColors Beverly Hills, though it does lack the pretty shimmer Luminous Lilac has.

This is definitely a polish I think is worth trying if you’re wanting to try Pixi polishes but you want something that’s a bit unique. Pixi just recently launched their polish line and is available at Target and on Pixi’s website and are $8 for .25oz.

For bottle and brush pictures check out my post on Vivid Coral. To get a good look at the shimmer in Luminous Lilac check out the macro shot below the jump.

Pixi Vivid Coral

I know, I know, another coral nail polish! But really, who doesn’t love coral? It’s the perfect no brainer color for Spring and Summer and if you are even a casual reader of this blog you know I am obsessed.

Recently Pixi launched a polish line. Vivid Coral is the first of their polishes I have tried so I didn’t really know what to expect.

Vivid Coral is a bright neon pink with red undertones. I’m not sure I would call this coral, but it certainly is vivid! I was surprised that this was a neon and I wasn’t at the same time. It does look quite bright in the bottle but not so bright that it was obviously a neon.

For a neon the formula was quite good. This polish does have a jelly feel to it so 3 coats are definitely required to get an opaque color. There is still a slight visible nail line but it is not near as noticeable to the naked eye as it is in the swatch. And as with all neons, this dries to a semi matte finish, so a shiny top coat is definitely required!

The wear from neons is usually pretty bad. A day, or two, at the most is all you’ll get. But this polish actually wore quite well.

Overall, I do like this polish though it is not particularly unique or groundbreaking. Below the jump there is a comparison to some similar polishes in my collection, including Essie Camera and SinfulColors Pink, but I don’t have any dupes. Also in that comparison I did one nail of Vivid Coral over Ulta Snow White. Layering Vivid Coral over a white polish gives the polish an entirely different look.

One thing I do love is the bottle. They are just so cute and different! But they only contain .25 fl.oz of polish and are $8. That is on the expensive side. Until I try a normal (read non  neon) polish from this line I can’t really say whether or not I think they are worth the somewhat steep price tag. Pixi is available at Target and on Pixi’s website.

Make sure to check below the jump for a bunch of other pictures including brush and bottle shots.
