JulieG Secret Treasure

JulieG Secret Treasure bottleWhat seems like a gazillion years ago at this point new polishes were added to JulieG’s permanent collection. I ended up hauling quite a few of them and have more or less loved every single one I have tried. Previously I have used Secret Treasure once over Orly High on Hope. It was gorgeous and I loved it. But then Secret Treasure got kind of lost in the mix.

This past weekend when I was looking for a fun nail polish to wear I ran across Secret Treasure and decided to give it another go. I started with a white base coat (Ulta Snow White) then topped it with 2 coats of JulieG Secret Treasure.

The glitter in Secret Treasure isn’t overly dense (it’s definitely a top coat only type of glitter) but it is buildable.

I ended up loving this manicure so much I wore it the entire weekend and Monday. Usually I do a manicure for both Friday and Saturday just so I can use some of my more fun polishes but I couldn’t bring myself to take Secret Treasure off!

For Friday night I paired this manicure with an orange dress and it complimented the manicure perfectly. There is a picture of the manicure with the dress fabric below the jump (along with a slew of additional swatches).

JulieG – Hot Cinnamon

JulieG - Hot CinnamonTa da! My love affair with textured polishes continues! A little while back, Alli ordered the entire JulieG Frosted Gumdrops collection. Lucky for me, she sent me two: Hot Cinnamon and Tangerine Dream.

Now.. I’ll be honest. When I first started looking at textured polishes – the red ones totally turned me off – I much preferred the softer colors (OPI Liquid Sand – Pussy Galore, OPI Liquid Sand Honey Ryder, ZOYA – NYX). So – shhh – I was a little bummed when I saw that Alli one of the two polishes Alli sent was Hot Cinnamon – don’t tell her that though, she’ll stop sending me polish!

Hot cinnamon is a bright -perfect for summer- cherry red polish. These polishes have a great wear time – I’ve worn both  few times and I’ve had no chipping or tip wear either time.

NOW, I’m happy to report that once again I’ve been swayed to the other side of the fence and I love this look- so much that I’d be open to trying other textured reds! I chose this polish to wear in honor of the True Blood premiere last night! PERFECT! 🙂

Happy Monday!

JulieG Rock Candy

JulieG Rock CandyThis post makes me kind of sad! This is the last of the  polishes from the JulieG Frosted Gum Drops collection I have to review (Katie has a couple she’ll be posting). I ended up just loving this collection.

Rock Candy is a green leaning textured teal with the same silver glitter as other polishes in this collection. I really love this color. And the glitter has a gorgeous sparkle.

The formula and application are great. I used two coats in all my swatches. As with other textured polishes, Rock Candy wears very well.

Blueberry Fizz is still my favorite from the Frosted Gum Drops collection but Rock Candy is a close second. The color is unique as is the finish and sparkle. A great drug store find!

Within the last couple of weeks I’ve seen the Frosted Gum Drops display restocked. So hopefully if you’ve had trouble finding these in your area they will be available soon. Although, of course, you can find these on the Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics website (with free shipping on orders over $20).

There are additional swatches below the jump 🙂

JulieG Crushed Candy

JulieG Crushed CandyMy obsession with the textured nail polish trend continues! I’ve really been loving the JulieG Frosted Gum Drops collection. When I spotted the display I thought Crushed Candy was going to be a favorite. It’s purple and sparkly and textured…what’s not to love, right?

Crushed Candy is a red based medium purple that at times almost looks pink. The color is beautiful. Unfortunately it just didn’t work well with my skintone (it’s really obvious in this picture).

As with the other polishes I have tried from this collection, application was a breeze. I used just two coats in my swatches.

Blueberry Fizz is definitely still my favorite from the Frosted Gum Drops collection. But I still have a few more to try so we shall see!

Make sure to check out the additional swatches below the jump 🙂

JulieG Blueberry Fizz

JulieG Blueberry FizzThis polish gave me a 10 Things I Hate About You moment. Sometimes I forget what a big difference there is between like and love. While I like the other textured polishes I have (such as the OPI liquid sand polishes or the China Glaze Texture polishes) I freaking LOVE Blueberry Fizz!

Recently I spotted the JulieG Frosted Gum Drops collection display at Rite Aid and ended up with all of them (I did send 2 to Katie so it’s less bad than it seems….. ok, not really). I really liked the first one I tried; Sugar Rush so I had really high hopes (not to be confused with being High on Hope) for Blueberry Fizz.

Blueberry Fizz contains small silver glitter along with more sparse large silver glitter in a periwinkle blue base. It’s basically a textured version of what I wanted Deborah Lippmann Today was a Fairytale to be.

Application was lovely. I used just 2 coats in my swatches.

I ended up loving this polish so much I used it as an accent nail with Essie No Place Like Chrome. The combo was amazing! There are swatches of that manicure, along with additional swatches of Blueberry Fizz, below the jump!

Nail Art: Small Metallic Polka Dots

Small Metallic Polka Dots 3I found myself with an unusual nail dilemma last weekend. I had to attend a wedding and the Charlotte Symphony on the same day. This meant I needed a manicure that was both wedding and symphony appropriate.

The dress I finally found that was appropriate for both events was a magenta/fuchsia color so I wanted to go with a (mostly) neutral nail. Metallics are definitely my favorite way to rock a neutral manicure so I went with my most recent metallic discovery; JulieG Liquid Metal. I wanted to do an accent nail and thought a navy polish would compliment the rose gold. butter LONDON Royal Navy was the perfect choice! I added the tiny polka dots using a toothpick. It worked wonderfully.

Like the last metallic polka dot manicure I did, I fell in love with this manicure. It was perfect for both the wedding and the symphony. I even wore it through the weekend (including a marathon cooking session).

Make sure to check out the additional swatches below the jump!

JulieG Sugar Rush

JulieG Sugar Rush 4Finally the textured polish trend has hit the drug stores!

Ever since I first heard about the JulieG Frosted Gum Drops collection I’ve been anxiously awaiting their arrival at Rite Aid. I finally spotted the display this past week and ended up with the entire collection. I sent a couple to Katie so she’ll be reviewing some as well.

Sugar Rush is a dark orange with significant red undertones packed with lighter orange glitter. In the bottle Sugar Rush was pretty but once you get it on the nail the contrast between the matte orange base color and the super sparkly glitter is gorgeous.

It’s worth noting that with the OPI Liquid Sand polishes I’ve had difficulty with the glitter changing from its original color to silver (you can see an example here). I did not have this problem with Sugar Rush.

The formula was lovely. I applied three coats in my swatches and was happy with the result.

If you’ve been resisting the textured polish trend this collection is a great way to give it a try. JulieG polishes are $3.99 a piece and sold at Rite Aid or on the Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics website (which offers free US shipping on any order over $20).

Instead of wearing Sugar Rush on all my nails I actually added an accent nail using Sally Hansen Barracuda. The color combination was kind of odd but I sort of liked it…in a weird way. There are additional swatches of Sugar Rush along with my strange color combination manicure below the jump!

JulieG Liquid Metal (+ a comparison to Orly Rage)

JulieG Liquid MetalI’ve yet to be disappointed by a JulieG polish and I’m happy to report that Liquid Metal will not be the first! This polish was part of the 2013 additions to the JulieG line. When I saw the display at Rite Aid I was immediately drawn to Liquid Metal because it reminded me of one of my all time favorite polishes; Orly Rage.

Liquid Metal is a super sparkly rose gold with a metallic finish. The color of this polish reminds me an awful lot of Essie Penny Talk though the finishes differ quite a bit.

The formula, like all JulieG polishes, was great. This does have a metallic finish so 3 coats were necessary. I found this formula easy to work with. Plus, I wasn’t fighting with the polish to prevent brush strokes like with many metallic polishes.

Comparing Liquid Metal to Orly Rage in the bottle they look to be dead on dupes. As it turns out the colors are quite similar though the finishes vary slightly. Orly Rage has a more frosted finish than Liquid Metal.

Below the jump there are swatches comparing Liquid Metal and Rage along with additional swatches of Liquid Metal.

JulieG Sound the Alarm (+ a comparison to Essie Hip-anema)

JulieG Sound the AlarmSometimes, particularly after I wear alot of crazy nail polish, I start to crave a good old fashion red manicure. Red manicures are clean and chic. Plus, red compliments almost any outfit.

Sound the Alarm is part of the new polishes added to the JulieG line in 2013. When I saw Sound the Alarm in the JulieG display at Rite Aid I knew it’d made a perfect summer red polish.

Sound the Alarm is a bright red creme with significant pink undertones. It’s bright but not neon, though definitely eye catching!

The formula is fabulous. I used just 2 coats in my swatches.

As I was wearing Sound the Alarm I realized it reminded me of a new release from Essie, Hip-anema. As it turns out they are not dupes but they are VERY close. Hip-anema is just a bit warmer than Sound the Alarm. There is a comparison swatch below the jump along with additional swatches of Sound the Alarm.

JulieG Cabana Boy

JulieG Cabana BoyCharlotte seems to be taking the whole April showers thing to a new level. I feel like I haven’t seen the sun in ages but regardless, I am so ready for spring!

I was looking through some of the polishes I have from the new 2013 additions to the JulieG nail polish line and Cabana Boy seemed like a good I’m so tired of rain polish.

Cabana Boy is a bright blue creme with significant purple undertones. It’s basically the non neon version of Essie Butler Please. As with most polishes in this color range getting an accurate photo of the color is more or less impossible. The color in this photo (that I took with my phone…) is pretty close.

As with most JulieG polishes, Cabana Boy’s formula was fabulous. I used just two coats in my swatches.

Recently I’ve been seriously obsessed with accent nails. I added an accent nail to this manicure using bondi New York Strawberry Fields. I was basically obsessed with the color combo. There is a swatch of that manicure below the jump along with additional swatches of Cabana Boy.
