essie Hip-Anema

essie Hip-AnemaEssie’s trying to be clever, y’all! For Spring 2013 Essie released a collection called Madison Ave-hue. It’s a collection of 6 polishes inspired by shopping districts around the world.

Hip-Anema draws inspiration from Ipanema, a part of Rio de Janeiro that is known for its beaches and high end restaurants and shopping. Although it might be best known in the US from the song Girl from Ipanema. Regardless, I’d expect a color like Impala Agua Fresca not what Essie has given us with Hip-Anema.  Luckily I got over the inspiration disconnect pretty quickly once I got this polish was on  my nails because it’s gorgeous!

Hip-Anema is a bright orange leaning poppy red creme. It’s perfect for spring and summer. And the formula is fantastic. It’s thin but very opaque. I used just two coats in my swatches.

I’m looking forward to trying other polishes from this collection and I must admit, I’m happy to see Essie taking inspiration from places around the world. OPI always wins me over with their country themed collections. Essie could do the same thing!

As always, there are more swatches below the jump!

  4. I have to say, this is the only Spring 2013 polish I haven’t bought. I like reds and I like oranges but orangey reds don’t do a thing for me.
