Trick or Treat: Blood Drip Nail Art

The inspiration for this manicure came from the nail art in Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2013 runway show. The models sported nail art that looked like blood was dripping down the nail from the tip to the cuticle. Interesting choice for a Spring runway show…but it seemed like a perfect manicure to try out for Halloween!

Turns out this was really easy to do. All you need is a nude and red polish and a dotting tool! If you don’t have a real dotting tool (I don’t!) you can make a DIY version very easily. Just check out this post.

Anyway, below the jump there are instructions on how to get this look in just three steps!

What you need:

  1. Nude and red polish. I used China Glaze Oxygen and Essie Fishnet Stockings.
  2. Dotting tool
  3. Top coat

How to:

  1. Paint all your nails nude.
  2. Do a less than perfect rather thick French tip with the red polish.
  3. Use your dotting too and make a dot for a blood drip a little more than half way down the nail and then drag the red polish up so it meets the French tip. Repeat as many time as you want on each nail. I did about 3 blood drips per nail.

Just wait for the design to to dry before topping it with a top coat and that’s it! Super simple and super creepy! Perfect for Halloween even just as an accent nail.

Thanks for the inspiration Prabal Gurung, but sorry, I will not be rocking this come Spring!

  1. Good one! I forgot this look was part of that runway show. I have done the bubble drips with skittle colors this past summer. Me who is not a nail artist at all and I could do it! Not thinking I need any halloween mani – but if I did, I would go with this knowing I can do it!
