SinfulColors Hot Wired

The only reason I have this nail polish is because of the rain. No, seriously. I was at the DNC watching a live show of Hardball with Chris Matthews (and having a bit of a fangirl moment) when it started to pour. So where does a nail polish addict take cover in a rainstorm? A Walgreens, of course. Not only did this Walgreens have a super fancy nail polish display, they also had the SinfulColors Hot Flash Metallics display.

This was during one of Walgreens’ $.99 Sinful Colors sales so I decided I must try one of these “hot flash metallics”. I was impressed with the color selection of this collection. Most metallic collections stick to silver, gold, etc. But this collection offers a wide range of  color options. Despite this, I still ended up with a rather “normal” metallic shade.

Hot Wired is a blue based graphite gray packed with a ton of microglitter. It reminds me a bit of OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous though Hot Wired lacks the green undertones that Lucerne has.

In the bottle this polish is gorgeous. But, at least in my opinion, it disappoints on the nail. It applies more like a jelly and less like a metallic so it’s a bit more dull than your normal metallic polish. Plus, the formula is super thin. I used 3 coats and still had bald spots and a visible nail line. Maybe I’m just spoiled by Essie’s No Place Like Chrome but this just didn’t look metallic on the nail.

This is the only polish I picked up from the Hot Flash Metallics collection so maybe this was just a dud. I don’t know. If you’ve tried any of the polishes from this collection please leave a comment and let me know about your experience!

  1. Oh I so wish we got rain in my area this time of the yr…it’s so dry and our hottest month of the yr now. This is really an amazing looking polish…we just never seem to have good ones from sinful in the little local Rite Aide which is poorly stocked. The Walgreens that is maybe 65 mile drive from me, also gets only spotty shades in this tiny 2 row plastic stand they have for this line. I think I would get sucked in to having a lot more of these if we had them stocked in this area. I agree – this one does remind me of Lucertainly Look…from OPI. The Sinfuls I have are all really watery and don’t stay put for more than 1 day on me. Hope you are enjoying your town getting back to pre convention normal again. I did not catch Hardball yesterday. Little TV time until the eve. I even had to tape 60 mins to see the Navy Seal author who wrote the spill all the beans book on the Bin Laden compound raid.

  2. So funny that the rain “forced” you to buy a polish. I can totally see that happening to me. 🙂

  3. I’m wearing one coat of Super Nova, and it’s beautiful. It’s a little rose goldish. You do need a topcoat for shine, though. Oh, and I would have fangirled over Chris Matthews, too.

    • I’m glad I’m not the only Chris Matthews fangirl! I’m happy to hear you had a better experience with a polish from this collection. Maybe I’ll bite the bullet and give Super Nova a try 🙂

  4. When you made your post last week and mentioned that you were at the DNC I actually meant to comment and ask if you got to see Chris Matthews since I saw that he was broadcasting outside. How awesome! I had my own similar fangirl moment about a year and a half ago. Hubby and I got tickets to see Real Time with Bill Maher and Rachel Maddow was one of the guests! Talk about fangirling! I was stoked to be in the same room! Anyway…it’s nice to see someone else get excited about these things like I do. 🙂

  5. First, I’m on Day 4 of Super Nova, and I don’t have any chips, which is almost unheard of for me. I’m using Orly Bonder and Seche Vite. Second, I love Rachel, too! I watch her on Friday nights partly just to hear her say that now we’re going to prison.

    • I always have good luck with SinfulColors when it comes to wear time.

I’m so amazed that so many people love Rachel! Makes me feel less strange, lol
