Once again, I have to thank Katie for the name of this nail art! She named my Neon Watercolor nail art just a few days ago and this time she came up with Acid Wash nails.
This is a manicure that happened because I was trying to give my nails a break. I filed them way down and put on my favorite Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle polish; Gorgeous Grape. As much as I love that polish I did get a bit sick of the polish after a couple of days but I didn’t want to remove the polish. This acid wash manicure was my compromise!
The steps I used to get this look is below the jump. I’d love to hear what you think about it!
- Two nail polishes of your choice. Any colors will work though creme polishes work best. I used Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Gorgeous Grape and OPI Done Out in Deco.
- Nail polish remover. Any remover will work but I find it’s easier to work with polish remover that is NOT 100% acetone.
- Q-tips
- Top Coat
- Paint all your nails in the darker of the two polish colors. Let dry completely.
- Paint over the darker color with the lighter color on all your nails. I used only one coat and found that worked well. Let dry completely.
- Soak a Q-Tip with nail polish remover and gently start running the Q-Tip over the polish from the cuticle to the tip until you’re happy with the amount of polish that has been removed.
- Repeat on the rest of your nails and apply a top coat.
That’s it! This is a super easy manicure to do and I just think the effect is so cool and different.
I love the simplicity of this! I’ve got to put it on my “to try” list!
You should definitely give it a try!
this is so awesome!!! love it!!! i may have to try it!
I’m so glad you like it!
Great one! Cannot wait to try it. Going to do my toes today and going to use it on them. This is one even I can do!
Easy nail art is the best nail art 🙂
I love this idea….your tutorial is great. I’m going to have to try this
Thank you! I’m always worried I won’t explain the steps clearly. I hope you try it 🙂
Love this! Your colors are perfect for this technique.
I’m so glad you like it! And thank you 🙂
I. simply. love. this.
And ‘acid wash’ is perfect. Reminds me of the brothers hideous black/grey stovepipes jeans of the early 90’s, in a good way!! hahaha
It is very 90’s. This manicure is definitely something Angela from My So-Called Life would wear!
I’m reading this post while watching the olympics and got a cool post idea. I noticed that a lot of the female olympians have flashy nail polish. For example swimmer Emily Seebohm from Australia wore cool neon yellow polish during the 100 backstroke, and one of the other girls in her heat had some patriotic nail art. I’m thinking “Nail polish of the Olympians”.
I realize that this is off topic, but I got sporadically inspired!
It is too funny that you wrote this because I was working on a Missy Franklin nail art post! I can’t help but notice all the fun nail polish at the games. I’m going to try and do as many posts on it as possible 🙂
I know! It was instant gratification! As always you guys are a step ahead… can’t wait to see more!
This is so awesome!!
Thank you!
very nice! definitely gonna try this =)
You should! I hope you love it 🙂
